If a deceased person was acting as a Personal Representative of an estate and they themselves pass on having not made a will it is highly probably, if the first estate remains un-administered, that in order to proceed with administration a Grant De Bonis Non will be required.

Grant De Bonis Non is Latin for “goods unadministered”. You need this Grant where an Executor named on a Grant of Probate, or an Administrator named on Letters of Administration, dies during the administration, or where assets from the original estate have been left behind.

When an Executor dies intestate they break the chain of representation. Anyone volunteering to finish the estate cannot simply step in and sign papers. The correct Grant must be obtained first, otherwise the process is open to fraud.
